Today’s Community Scripture – 8/5/2024

Written by Arthur Poston Jr.

August 5, 2024

– Scripture:

‘“Your brother,” he said, “came here falsely and took your blessing.” ‘

                           Genesis 27:35 MSG

– Reflection:

              What Is The Source?

Jacob deceived his father into receiving the family blessing instead of his brother, Esau. Both Jacob and his mother, Rebekah, were deceptive. The deceit continued when Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah by his uncle, Laban, who was also dishonest in his business dealings. It seems like the spirit of deceit, manipulation, and dishonesty was passed down through the family line intentionally rather than coincidentally.

Where do we go from here?

It’s important to ask yourself, “Why do I struggle in this area? Why am I attracted to compromise, addictions, or manipulation?” Understand the root causes. Some of the issues you face may have been passed down to you, but they can end with you. It might not be easy, but if you take a step of faith to put an end to it, you will receive the grace to do so from God. This could involve letting go of bitterness, seeking help for an addiction, or refusing to settle for mediocrity as your destiny. You have the power to break the cycle of negativity.

Our Prayer for Today

“Father, thank you for the victory achieved on the cross, breaking the power of every negative force that is trying to hold us back. Thank you for destroying any stronghold of the enemy within our family lines. We believe that we have been set free. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
